Week 4- #1

Speech Buddy: Review Drinking and Light Pollution videos on the Interactive Video website in accordance with Chapter 5. Respond to each video. What did the speaker do well? What can you learn from watching these videos?

Hello class! After watching Courtney Stillman's video I noticed a lot of mistaks. First off, her introduction was very bland and unexciting. She sounded like she didn't even want to talk about what she was going to talk about. And in order to get your audience excited about your topic you have tobe first excited. On the other hand she did do a very good job with her thesis. She let the class know exactly what information she was going to give them, which was very good. She had a clear idea and plan on the direction her speech was going to go.

Matthew Naso started off his speech with a very good introduction. It was captivating and left you wanting to hear more. The introduction is one of the most important parts of a speech. It paves the way for the rest of your speech. However Matthew did well with his introduction, the rest of his speech was sort of dull. He becme kind of boring. Talking at a very monotone voice. Both speakers did very well, however both needed to improve in different areas. I think watching these videos is very good for us because it shows us what not to do. It also shows us some good things to do. These are very good videos and are very helpful.

I really liked how you said that she had a good thesis... because I didnt even really connect with what Courtney was saying... She was totally not wanting to talk about her subject.. Next time she should just want to pick a better topic that will be interested in. We didn't get to see the audience, but I bet they were bored and unenthustiastic about her speech. Matthew also did a good job on his speech, but he did also seem kind of flared down during the ending of her speech. They both did an ok job, but there are just spots where they can improve.

I agree with what you are saying. I also felt that Courtney was a little bland. She could have been a lot more creative. If she was, she might have caught the audience’s attention more. Even if it was lacking creativity, she did do a good job of mapping out her speech and stating her thesis. I also agree with the part about the need to at least have some interest in your speech. I think this topic might have been a little too hard to connect with. I do not think that it would fit her demographic very well.

Matthew did have a good introduction and then kind of got boring. He took very long pauses and messed up a few times. The monotone voice did not help his dullness at all. I also felt that the videos were very helpful and highlighted some do's and don'ts.

Interestingly enough, I found the girl's video the better out of the two speeches. I found that she was more formal which was good, but many of the other students agree with me. I thought the guy offered a lot of information, however they way he presented it was scattered and his visual aids were ineffective because it was exactly what he was saying in his speech, not a complimentary graph or photos. Oh wel!
